2. Use this website to research the effects that the Underground Railroad and escape attempts had on slaves and plantations. Pair up with another student to discuss what you found. Do you think the negative effects on the plantations were enough to justify slavery? What other methods could plantation owners have used to get the job done? Discuss with your partner how your new solution would have affected history.

3. Read the article about Frederick Douglass found at this website. Identify at least three instances of cause and effect in the article and write a short essay about them. For example, think about how Douglass' ability to read helped him escape and become an influential part of freeing other slaves. Be detailed in your description and try to think outside the box.
